CCTV How To Guides

The Hik-Connect App

The Hik-connect app is your one stop shop to operating your CCTV system. Here we include a brief guide on operating the CCTV through the app.

To view a “live-view” image

To play your CCTV’s live image open the app and select the camera you wish to view.

To view “playback”

  • Open the app and select the camera you wish to playback from. In portrait mode, select the playback button.
  • From here, use the arrow buttons to select the date you wish to play back.
  • Move the time wheel to select the time you wish play back.

Top Tip: You can “zoom-in” on a particular time by pinching and expanding the time wheel, this makes it easier to find short incidents.

Extracting CCTV images

By default your CCTV system will record constantly until the hard drive is full. The system will automatically overwrite the oldest data. This means that any potential incident will be automatically deleted. As a result it is important to take a copy of an incident as soon as you are aware of one occurring. To do this, locate the incident by using the playback instructions listed above. Just prior to the incident starting, press the circle record icon – A red dot should appear in the top right hand corner of the of the screen indicating that a copy of the CCTV is being taken. Once the incident finishes, press the circular record icon again to stop recording.

A pop up will appear with your extracted image, from here you can email or share the clip by selecting the relevant option.

The clip will also be saved for future retrieval within the app. To view historic extracted clips, select the “Application” tab then the “Personal Album” icon.

Sharing the CCTV System with another user

The new user will need to download the “Hik-Connect for end user” app from the android or apple app store and create an account. On the doner device, click the 3 dots next to the device name then select “share”, then “share with user”, then “share via QR code”.

On the recipient device, click “add device” or the “+” icon, then “scan QR code”. Scan the QR code on the doner device.

The device may ask you for an encryption password. This would have been provided to you at installation.

I want to remove a persons access to my CCTV System

To remove a person’s access to your system, click the “application” tab in the hik-connect app. Next click the “sharing” icon, from here you can remove an account from accessing your system. If the person that needs removing used the same account credentials as you, you will need to change you account password.

  • To do this, click the “Me” tab.
  • Next click the account name at the top of the page then change password.
  • You will then need to enter your current password. If you don’t know this, follow the I’ve forgotten my Hik-connect email or password as listed below.

Reviewing motion events
